Weather Helps Callers Capture Coyotes

The 2007 Dupree Dog Days was the biggest ever.  It raised over $2000 for the Dupree AAU Wrestling Team and harvested 86 total coyotes right before calving time.  This event is becoming a can’t miss for hunting enthusiasts all over the area.  It started on Friday night with a Chili and Soup feed, Tom Ward from Dakota Yote Varmint Calls gave a talk on the history of Predator Calling and gave away a lot of his companies products.  When the night was over, 59 teams had checked in and were auctioned off in the Calcutta with 25% of the proceeds going to the Dupree Tigers AAU Wrestling Team.

Hunters were given their instructions and then sent on their way to hunt all day Saturday.  On Saturday night they started pulling into the Pioneer hall at about 5:00pm, a coyote here and a couple coyotes there, then 3 coyotes, then 4 coyotes.  For a long time 4 coyotes was leading.  Then all of the sudden Jule Lamb and Roddy Thompson pulled up with 6 dogs and it only got better from there.  When the smoke cleared 86 total Coyotes were harvested thanks to large numbers and perfect weather.  The team of Bob Stalley and Austin Early having 10 total and they walked away with Coyote Skull Trophies made by Ramon Birkeland owner of Ash Creek Taxidermy.  There was a youth hunt that gave a Johnny Stewart Attractor to the team that had a member under 18 years of age and brought in the most coyotes, the winners were George and Sage Till with one coyote weighing 33 pounds.

All in all the contest was a huge success.  There were to many sponsors to mention but we have to say a special thanks to Tom Ward of Dakota Yote Varmint Calls and Hunter Specialties Products.  Along with Predator Sniper Styx and Sightron Optics.  Full results are listed below.
