2008 Toughest Dog Days to Date
Champions Mike & Brad Hand
along with Justin Thorstenson
When there are -20 degree wind chills it’s hard to get a coyote to come out and
play. That proves that coyotes are
smarter than the 110 hunters that showed up to brave the elements for Dupree Dog
Days. With temperatures holding
tight at about 5 degrees and winds gusting over 30 miles per hour, many of the
55 teams didn’t shoot or see anything and a few didn’t even show up for the
rewards. 44 coyotes were killed and
when it was all said and done Dupree Dog Days paid out over $10,000 in cash and
prizes while bringing in over $2,000 for the Dupree AAU Wrestling Club.

Dupree Dog Days prides itself on offering a door prize of some kind to every
hunter. These door prizes are sent
to us from our National Sponsors at no charge to SoDakAdventure.com or Dupree
AAU Wrestling; we would like to thank the following sponsors: FoxPro, DOA
Tactical, Edge Decoys, Wiley One Calls, Porath Calls, F&T Fur Traders, Sightron,
Leupold, MD Hunting Adventures, Whack-N-Stack, Scheels All Sport.
We also cannot forget our local sponsors, Ash Creek Taxidermy & Ramon Birkeland
for making our awesome Coyote Skull Trophies.
High Plains Taxidermy and Jerry Big Eagle for donating a $350 head mount
as a door prize won by Skeeter Smith.
The first to pick their door prizes were the returning hunters that were under 18 years of age.
The 2nd group to pick their door prizes off of the Prize Table were
this year’s members of the D. S. S. club (Didn’t Shoot Anything) they are
pictured below.
The Last group to pick their door prizes, were all of the adults who came in
with one of the 44 coyotes.
Then we drew for some of the higher dollar door prizes and here are the winners
of prizes from DOA Tactical, Fox Pro Digital Game Callers, Sightron, and Edge
Decoys.
We hope everyone had as much fun participating in 2008’s version of Dupree Dog
Days as we had putting it on.
Special Thanks to the Pioneer Hall for giving us a top notch venue, to the Rodeo
Committee for serving drinks, to the Wrestling Parents for feeding us so good
and for helping to check in all the coyotes, Roy Lemmon for being a great
auctioneer, and to Mike Fillaus from the SoDakAdventure Pro Staff for cutting
the blocks and helping with check in.
But most of all Thank You to all the hunters who have participated over
the last 4 years, this contest is about you and many of you have come back from
all over the region, we appreciate all of your support.
Next year’s contest is already in the works and scheduled for February 6th
& 7th of 2009. We hope
it will be even bigger and better, there are already many new ideas and twists
being added to keep it interesting.
