-44 degree wind chill

Boy has it been cold, in my last entry I said I was going bow hunting, and I have a tag, I even went out on a few stalks. First major stalk, I saw a pretty good Mule Deer go into a draw that had plenty of protection, it was quite a hike up and over to sneak in but I thought it might be worth it. After the hike I got to about 50yds of 2 whitetail bucks, both with new antlers, probably yearlings at best, no Muley to be seen. After a little more searching I hiked back out, thankful for the fresh air, but no reason to take an arrow out of a quiver. Later that afternoon I saw horns bedded down in the creek bottom I climed over a bluff and glassed down to get a better look, this buck had potential but he was only about 2 1/2 years old, so I let him live another day. The next day while feeding cows I saw a nice whitetail, at least a 5x5 way out past his ears, I had the bow but there were 2 problems, 1) he was out in the open acting like he lost a contact, 2) Gus was with me. After parking the pickup and getting my gear on, I tried and tried to put Gus in the cab, but he knew a hunt was on and he wasn't having anything to do with it, so I attempted to make a stalk with Gus, only got within about 70 yds, but the deer was everything I hoped for, but next time I see him, I will put Gus in the cab before I park the truck. I spent the next couple of days getting ready for the blizzard that was coming and my son had a Basketball Tournament I attended. This limited my hunting, the last 2 days have been the coldest of the season, this morning the wind chill was -44 degrees. After thawing water tanks and feeding cows, I made a couple of stops in the pickup looking for a deer but I just didn't have the heart to stay outside any longer. Oh well tomorrow is another day, and we are looking a +7 degrees for a high, so perhaps I'll make a move.
