Went calling today, wind was out of the NE instead of the NW, I thought perfect time to try some new stands.
Stand 1: -4 degrees east wind Called in some Mule Deer
Stand 2: 0 degrees Parked the Hemi to the downwind side called upwind for ever, keeping the downwind side blind knowing no self respecting coyote would walk by a pickup they would go way around and then I would bust them. Called 20 minutes trying the Lightning Jack call that I downloaded to the FX3. After 25 minutes and no Coyote I got up to walk back to the Hemi. With a coyote sitting on the ridge between me and the truck, I stood up he ran off, end of story.
Stand 3: 4 degrees Big Area can see almost 360 degrees, Coyote comes right up the pipe where my gun is pointed closes to about 150yds and Gus Spots him, Gus goes to say high and the coyote bolts, back the way he came never to appear again. Most of the time they will tie up with Gus and hang around even follow him back to me, but this guy wanted no part of it.
Oh well you win some you lose some. I saw 2 more coyotes driving around so they are out. Never shot my gun but probably educated a few before Dupree Dog Days. I love cold weather and no wind.
Happy Hunting
